Interested in playing Ice Hockey ?
Parents – the FIRST thing you should know is that our local competition is a Non Contact Sport!
What you see on TV is not how the game is played here in Australia. The emphasis is on fun and skill in this exciting team sport.
The movie “Slapshot” did for hockey what “Jaws” did for swimming !!
Ice hockey is fun for all ages! Our youngest players are around 5, our oldest, around 80!
Ice Hockey Development Course
Monday nights at HISS, a development course is run for new players wanting to learn the basic skills required to join a local competition.
The course is run by current North Stars players (currently it’s run by Gicu for beginners and Joey for intermediate) with a focus on learning and enjoyment.
Each week’s session goes for an hour and costs $10 (plus $3 skate hire if required). This is open to everyone – kids and adults – who want to learn the basic skating and stick skills of the game.
Basic safety equipment is provided for newcomers to have a go – if you decide to stick with it we recommend you pick up your own gear and get used to using it – there is plenty of second hand gear available if you ask around or try eBay and the like.
The bottom line is everyone in the Ice Hockey community is friendly and we encourage new players – you will not be treated as an outcast because you’ve never played before! Ask loads of questions, most people will be more than willing to help.
