North Stars Muscle Up with Lawrance
The Proski North Stars have filled out their blue line with 6’1″ 180lb defender Robbie Lawrance to join Newcastle for 2012.
Lawrance is a Canadian and OHL 67′s veteran, most recently with the HYC Herentals in Eredivisie, the Netherlands/Belgian elite league.
North Stars coach and GM Garry Doré believes Lawrance will be a significant figure in the AIHL.
“Robbie is a defenceman capable of playing offence but for us will be filling the role of a rock-solid stay-at-home defenceman.
“We expect Robbie will show the defensive awareness of Rob Starke with the edge of Mike McKenna, at their best.”
Lawrance, like many of the North Stars former imports, has played in the Eredivisie. Several ex-North Stars still play in the league, including Daryl Bat, Marcel Kars and Don Nichols.
Lawrance’s signing leaves just the one import place remaining, with the defenceman joining forwards Brian Bales and Jeremy Boyer on the Proski North Stars roster.
